It's likely you may already know Robert Earl Thomas from his work in Widowspeak, but this February he'll be releasing a debut solo album on Captured Tracks. "Another Age" is the first glimpse of this material and it's utterly bewitching and stunning. The signature, warm vocals of Thomas that are so often evident in Widowspeak are present here and they seemingly soar high than ever when set against the backdrop of this track. It's a glaringly intimate moment, with Thomas "looking from the outside in", writing the track after returning to New York City. Glistening, sweet strings so perfectly reflect the feelings of familiarity that can overtake you when you make a return to somewhere once forgotten and the magic of being back but still feeling out of place is evident in the song's gradual unraveling. Sometimes you just hear a piece of music and none of your own words or thoughts about it feel right, instead the song begs for your own stories and emotions to be revealed; this is one of those times.
