mp3: "Mad Sugar" - Vomitface

Back in March we gave you the first taste of Sugar Rush 2 in the form of "Maria Sweet" from Strange Relations. Today we're serving up another dose of candy-coated goodness on the newest single from the compilation — Vomitface's "Mad Sugar". It goes down like an auditory jawbreaker - with band members Jared Micah and Preetma Singh, hitting you with a dose of heavy, grunge that eventually reveals a sweet, unforgettable center.

As the band explains in a release, "Throughout Vomitface’s debut LP, 2016's Hooray for Me, guitarist and singer Micah fixates on the body as something disgusting, wretched, and undeserving. The mood is sardonic and bleak, but, almost despite itself, it’s buoyed by Micah’s knack for melody. “Mad Sugar” [the name of which serves as an homage to Micah’s identically-named first band in the 8th grade] takes a different approach. Micah fully leans into the early ‘00s bubblegum love song template, and then distorts it with sludgy guitars and imagery of sickness and decay. Love can only be so sweet before it becomes something grotesque and gluttonous."

Sugar Rush 2 is due out 10.31, with a full lineup and tracklist to come, but until then you can preorder the album right nowEvery single dollar raised is going to "QORDS - (Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer) - an overnight camp for queer and gender non-conforming youth or youth of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, or asexual families, with special focus on youth in the South. By empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music, QORDS is a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, and harbors an environment of self-discovery and social change."
