hola beach is preparing to disband, but ahead of that the band will release one final EP, The Big Game on December 2nd. This won't be the end of their music-making though, as the group is planning to reform under a different name. Today we're bringing you the title track from hola beach's final EP and what a sendoff it is. "the big game" is honest and sincere, beginning with a confessional wish that, "I wanna be the one/you tell your problems to/late at night/and then we figure out/a way to get past them." That sincerity continues throughout the track, which further explores the hesitancy of one to let someone else in. At times the single feels sparse, with only the ringing of guitar and soft persistent pattering of drums, and then it sees a gradual blossoming, instrumentals setting the stage for an explosion of fuzzy guitars to join in and dance about. A repeated reckoning - "you don't wanna let me in" peers through the haze and calamity, lingering with you, its weight felt long after the track plays out. It's a promising send off, a perfect way to say farewell, and leave fans wondering what's ahead.
