"Go" might possibly be one of the most beautiful explorations into emotions that you'll ever hear. The single, which appears on Ballen's upcoming album You're A Shooting Star, I'm A Sinking Ship, is a set of gorgeously raspy, whispered instructions. The track plays out as a directive from Ballen, the singer's quiet confidence apparent from the outset as she says, "Go, forget about me, I know it's easy. Go, pack your bags and leave." The line is then repeated, interspersed among ruminations and breakaway vocal moments that have Ballen soaring, shattering through the lush, complimentary backing of strings and drums. As the track concludes, all is stripped away but for a brief collection of intricate guitar work, strings echoing against one another as a sendoff. It's a haunting finale, a reminder of how the process of leaving can be so freeing, but also so very mysterious.
