video: "Destroyer" - Lala Lala
The story behind Lala Lala's upcoming album The Lamb is a serious one. As she told Stereogum, a robbery that happened in her apartment while she slept left her with unsettled and fearful feelings. And as things continued to compound, Lillie West aka Lala Lala found herself turning to songwriting. "Destroyer" is our first glimpse at the resulting work and after multiple listens, it's a song that still hits you with a fresh urgency every single time.
"Destroyer" begins with throbbing, guttural guitar and as time continues, West joins in. The song shifts from an unassuming beginning to controlled, beautiful chaos. In a single that serves as an exploration of freeing yourself from unwanted thoughts, West does her own share of discovery, breaking through the noise to deliver a cutting line - "you are the reason my heart broke behind my back." It's a song of reckoning, growth, and emotion. To be honest, it's one of those singles you just need to experience for yourself.
