It's apparent from its outset that "Icon" is truly magnificent. The single comes from CARE's Winspear release, LUV IN THE RUINS - the third album in deconstructive pop artist Justin Majetich's catalog. In the video, Majetich lets the song take center stage, a camera tightly closed in on their face, a flickering of every emotion passing by in gradually changing visuals that included colored tears and colorful eyebrows. It all plays as a stunning backdrop to a track that feels secretive, meaningful and crushing. "Comedy or tragedy/either way it's a masterpiece to me," Majetich sings, and its a sentiment that sticks with you, striking a chord with the sincerity and emotion of its message. It's a mesmerizing few minutes and as CARE explains the video is "a subtle melodrama of the self. Throughout the video, the artist indulges a variety of personas, blurring distinctions of sincerity and contrivance, emphasizing the often auto-erotic relationship of artist and work. "Icon" was shot and edited by Justin Majetich in New York City."
