video premiere: "Millennial Trash Blues" - Jo Passed

The dream world created in Jo Passed's video for "Millennial Trash Blues" is as dynamic, colorful and unsettled as its single counterpart. The visuals, directed by Justin Gradin, are unusual and outlandish, the costumed characters and eye-popping imagery inspired by the act of stepping into someone's dream. And while the brightly painted faces and monster under the bed that appear in the video are memorable, it's the single that holds it all together; a perfect soundtrack for the nearly four minutes of unexpected and delightful terrors.

This latest single from Jo Passed's upcoming album Their Prime (out worldwide through Sub Pop Records, with the exception of Canada through Royal Mountain Records on May 25th.) begins with electrifying noise; as if every instrument comes at once, setting the stage for an terrifically eerie rendezvous through someone's sleeping mind. From there the noise is gradually stripped away, becoming something both beautiful and harsh; thick, hazy vocals barely audible above the continued thunderous roar of instrumentals. Listen closely enough and you'll discover that this powerful message takes direct aim at the continued use of the word "snowflake" to describe millennials. The single is a dynamic takedown; an impassioned, noisy reclamation of just trying to demand your place: “We're a bunch of unique snowflakes but it's actually the snowflakes of a burning trash fire."
