Anna Burch’s video for “Tea-Soaked Letter” is a hazy, colorful day. We see her in the morning, putting the kettle on, making tea, throwing some bread in the toaster, cut with performance pieces against a pink backdrop out in nature. It’s a balance of what you’d want your day to be - pleasantly mundane morning tasks, then off to follow your passion in a beautiful location. The video could be a day spent with any person living alone - you do exactly what you want to do whenever you want to do it. It seems lovely from the outside, but her lyrics betray that she’s alone not by choice, but because someone hasn’t joined her. “I’m so alone,” she sings. The happy face balloons floating around her turn to sad faces as she repeats “You’re all I wanted” and we see a destructive streak as she pours sugar all over the table. Her upbeat and jangly guitar sounds like a warm, sunny day, as her lyrics tell how she really feels. Haven’t we all been there?
The single is off her upcoming February 2 debut album (it seems so far away, but time flies!) from Polyvinyl Records titled Quit the Curse.
