album stream premiere: Honest Sounds: An Honest Face Records Compilation
Some of the most talented bands we know have come together for a benefit compilation from Honest Face Records. Honest Sounds is out Saturday, and will donate 50% of all proceeds raised to Planned Parenthood. If giving back to an organization in need isn't enough of a reason to hand over all your money, just consider the tracklist. The compilations features contributions from Tranquility, Junipur, Head Spell, and more. Each track is varying in its sound and ideal, with Coping Skills providing a memorable and dreamy cover of Mitski's "Last Words of a Shooting Star" and oldsoul using an intricate guitar pattern and honest, unrestrained vocals to deliver on the emotional "S'Okay". You can stream the entire thing below, and then head on over to the label's Bandcamp and get your own copy!
The label's co-owner Jake Checkoway explained a little more behind the compilaton, saying: “Honest Sounds: An Honest Face Records Compilation” is a collection of songs that I recorded, mixed and mastered throughout my final semester of school, as part of my senior thesis project. With this compilation, I aimed to put together a cohesive album of diverse indie/alternative rock groups within the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. I decided to donate my time to these specific bands because I think they are all very unique in their own ways, while also having similarities in genre. The compilation also acts as a sort of portfolio for my recent production and mixing practices. The name “Honest Sounds” relates to my personal style of production - throughout the mixing process, I didn’t use any drum sample replacement and I also didn’t use any amp simulators, only real guitar amps and tones. We wanted to use this as an opportunity to give to charity as well, so we chose to donate 50% of profit to Planned Parenthood to support equal rights for women, which we strongly believe in."
