Earlier this year we introduced you to Hiding Behind Sound, and nearly two months later the band is ready to release their album Words Escape. From the album's beginning notes, one is swept up in the heart-wrenching honest folk of Sammi Niss. Whether wishing for the memory of a lover to finally leave them ("No Looking Back") or incorporating a twinkle of strings and a flourish of instrumentals into a dreary tale of desperation ("Bruises"), Words Escape feels too large to contain. It explores every poignant moment of life, Niss using warm, and at times seemingly weary vocals to create an tender, immediate connection with listeners. The album is so fluid and pure; its tales of worries, growth, and just trying to get through each day made all the more grand with gorgeous, unrestrained acoustic work. It's a listen you can close your eyes to and literally feel the emotion of Niss run through your veins.
As Sammi Niss explained: "I got lost in the process of writing and recording these songs over a long period, and it was all I wanted to do all the time. I hear that in the songs—the sense of going deep into the musical process and into the feelings the songs came from. I wasn’t really thinking about whether I was worthy of being a songwriter or even thinking about sharing them with friends and the world. Then things got serious. When I got sick, the album became about that, after the fact, and that’s when I started to feel driven about getting them out there."
