Retirement Party immediately captured our hearts with the release of their album Somewhat Literate, and nearly one year after the album’s release, Avery Springer of the band has returned, sharing the latest EP under her moniker Elton John Cena.
Much like her work with RP, this release sees Springer opening herself up, turning the worries surrounding whatever the fuck is happening with life into bite-size, memorable hits of fuzzy pop. The energy of this release isn’t as tumultuous or unrelenting as what you get from a listen to RP, but the catchy, sharp-acoustic driven tracks, and Springer’s relatable contemplations on everything from wanting to leave the party early (“Beer Pong”) to wishes to understand how “to live as a hero” (“Rat Poison”) make for a remarkable return into her solo world.
