Mini Dresses’ “Hands Down” is a dreamy, hazy treat tucked in the middle of the Boston band’s latest release. Their self-titled debut LP is out now on Joy Void Recordings, an eclectic mix of echoey but grounded songs. The album is two years in the making, and the lo-fi bedroom pop trio’s careful deliberation is evident in tracks like “Hands Down.” Lira Mondal’s melodic vocals are bell-like and perfectly measured, effortlessly building into layered harmonies backed by steady yet intricate bass and drums. “If we’ve got nothing better to do / we can lay our hands down / and lay our faces down / and lay our faces down,” Mondal sings, the line fading into a crackle. The song unfolds in a relaxed tempo, enchantingly calm and contemplative – “a reflection on the more ambiguous aspects of desire,” as Mini Dresses tell GFP.
