If you’ve ever longed for the sonic equivalent of lying drenched in sunlight, becoming a blissed-out kind of sleepy under the warm rays, then the latest single from Hovvdy should just about do the trick. The Austin-based bedroom pop duo – self-described as “pillowcore” – is responsible for the hazy, dreamlike sounds of Taster, released last year. Now, Hovvdy is back with the announcement of a follow-up to their debut album – Cranberry will be released February 9 via Double Double Whammy, and lead single “Petal” and its accompanying video are out now. “Petal” is soft and delicate, showcasing band members Charlie Martin and Will Taylor’s shared love for quiet, minimalist songwriting. The video, which also features Lomelda’s Hannah Read, is tender in its simplicity, drawing on warm and familiar motifs to create a world of soft comfort and laid-back contemplation. “I had a feeling, with who you used to be,” Hovvdy repeats in a gentle, hushed tone that dwells in memory, the glowing, sun-soaked sparsity lingering throughout the song.
