rewind: Romantic - Mannequin Pussy

rewind takes you back to a previously released album that we don't want you to miss.

Anxiety is fleeting, but destructive. At its worst, when it throws you into a panic attack everything around you seems to collapse, a whirlwind of thoughts, sounds and physical symptoms wrecking you in a way that can leave you feeling whiplashed and stunned. Mannequin Pussy's Romantic seizes those feelings and puts them to song, in an album that's tenacious in its ferocity, and empathetic in its understanding of scraping your way through life.

In an interview with Bandcamp Daily, Marisa Dabice talked of how the album signified stepping out from isolation and presenting the deepest and darkest of feelings with listeners. That approach of being unafraid but also sincere is apparent in an album of ever-changing emotions. Each second of the nearly 20 minutes the album runs for is varying from the next. Whether screaming of a willingness to "kiss myself when I'm feeling lonely," on opener "Kiss" or sweetly promising an ever-constant ear on "Emotional High," Romantic is a riot, etching vulnerability against a backdrop of brash and beautiful punk. Navigating feelings and life can bring about so many emotions and Romantic perfectly and quickly cycles through them all. From the screamed pleas of "stop taking this shit out on me," in the title track to the rattling rage of insomnia-fueled reflections on "Denial," Dabice and bandmates Thanasi Paul, Kaleen Reading and Bear Regisford allow you to feel alongside them. Perhaps in the process of listening you'll realize that you're not alone in any of your anxieties.
