Journeying into thoughts of past mistakes or a periods in which everything seemed easier doesn't always come without a pang to the heart. Thankfully, this trip down memory lane from Useless Youth is both breezy and carefree. "Expectations" may delve into serious matters of the heart: "there's no way back/to those days where I would be so happy," but its repetitious string pattern and heavy vocals are more akin to a feeling of weightless daydreams, than past burdens we continue to carry with us. And there are also plenty of surprise moments to be found here, from a lofty chorus that matches the tone set by a swift run of guitars to its all too abrupt conclusion. "Expectations" is one nostalgia-soaked adventure you won't mind revisiting.
