As the title of Mamlarky’s single would suggest, “Fury” doesn’t exactly come quietly. For just a second, “Fury” starts with only fuzz, a brief ominous sound of static-filled noise that’s backed by a visual of bees. And then, it all begins, an artfully messy collage of guitars, bass, and synth play out with a wondrous nature akin to a fun house soundtrack. For a little more than two minutes, Mamalarky bounces through the emotions of having a crush, pausing only briefly to allow vocals to step into the spotlight before it all picks up again. “Fury” is playful, fast, and unexpected. And thanks to the addition of a spontaneous synth calling out a repetitious pattern, you’re constantly kept on your toes, as if “Fury” is unsettled in its identity, eager to surprise you with some new element.
