song: "Ghosts" - Harmony Woods
words: Kayla Carmicheal
As a cool mix of vox and guitars sway to the drum beat, “Ghosts” from Harmony Woods fully kicks into gear. The single, the first from a forthcoming new album from Woods, aka Sofia Verbilla, explores the realization that when this journey is all over, we all have to go somewhere else; when the curtain closes, ghosts will be all that remain. The song is exhilarating in its motion, delivering a sobering message in upbeat fashion. Though at the song’s climax there’s a moment of reflection, with Verbilla recognizing that lives are continuing all around us, unchanged. “If they’re not worrying, why am I?” Seemingly, no one else has thoughts about what happens after the fact. Is worrying about the unknown fruitless? Whether we are or aren’t is a question that lingers. Deep inner thoughts are paired with an energetic bright composure, making for a mix of complexity and summer vibes,
“Ghosts” appears on Make Yourself At Home, out 10/4 via Skeletal Lightning.
