Since the minute we first heard Nanami Ozone, we had fallen in love. There’s something undeniably special about this band, with each of their songs feeling more energized and urgent than the last. This proves especially true on “3 Mile Drive,” the newest single from an upcoming release out due out on a TBD 2019 date via Tiny Engines. Until that album officially hits our ears, the band has released this single alongside “Alone Too” (which Stereogum premiered yesterday) as a digital 45.
“3 Mile Drive” comes out punching from the start, with swinging, fuzzed-out guitar and tremendous percussion. At times, the thunderous instrumental presence totally engulfs the vocals, practically submerging listeners in a storm of noise that surrounds them from every corner. And despite how ferocious it all sounds, the brief song is actually quite romantic, sharing the story of a short drive that always leads to a welcome destination. In its final moments, “3 Mile Drive” strips itself of every element that once comprised the track, leaving listeners with only the ringing of an experimental twang. Yeah, it definitely leaves you totally excited for more.
