With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, you’re probably finishing up a playlist for that special someone and thinking to yourself, “If only there was a song that could explain to the person I love how I really feel about them.” Well, you’re in luck, because today we’re premiering “Caught Around Your Heart”, the lead single off Layperson’s forthcoming LP The Divide, out 3/29 via our good pals over at Good Cheer Records.
Relationships are a complicated thing that are constantly evolving, but “Caught Around Your Heart” dials in on the fundamental human need of wanting to be loved without ever being over sentimental. Boasting a straightforward yet spirited arrangement, Julian Morris’s tenderhearted vocals and dewy-eyed delivery wash over you, gently unspooling the track’s infectious melody into bite-sized pieces. There are certainly traces of singer-songwriter to be found here, and it’s not difficult to imagine the songs breezy rhythms playing over the credits of a rom-com or while you’re waiting in line for your coffee, but Morris’s pop sensibilities are so obvious that the second you try to pigeonhole him, he’s already moving in another direction.
