song: "Heavy Heavy" - Pom Pom Squad
Nearly two years after the release of her incredible Hate It Here EP, and Pom Pom Squad has returned, releasing a single that shakes up every notion you could have ever formed about her musical ideals.
The band’s once fuzzy, emotive garage pop is now ferocious, with a wall of noise provided by thunderous, larger-than-life guitars and drums cloaking you in an unshakable presence. And much like Hate It Here, vocalist Mia Berrin again embraces her deepest feelings, singing of an emptiness and heaviness that’s there as soon as she awakens.
Here’s the thing though, as much as Berrin embraces this heaviness, and a more than suitable pairing of wrathful instrumentals, she’s revealing a much deeper, softer truth: “I’m feeling heavy, heavy/ Doesn’t mean I wanna fucking die.”
“Heavy Heavy” is an embracing of your darkest feelings; a reminder that it’s OK to not always have the answers, and to recognize that sometimes you’re going to have scream your way through tough moments. And while we may never solve every problem that life throws our way, “Heavy Heavy” is a track that will be there for us to shout along to.
