song: "Take Off Ur Pants" - Indigo De Souza

Indigo De Souza is magic — pure and simple.

In June 2018, Zoë Madonna interviewed the artist for TGE, and all these months later, I’m still finding solace in this uniquely beautiful album. The entire release is worth your attention, but it’s single “Take Off Ur Pants” that has become a personal mantra.

It’s a track of questioning that starts with a low, funky guitar line. Soon after, it all swells; the fuzz, the ringing of crashing guitars, and drums, and then it fades to the background, welcoming De Souza. “Take Off Ur Pants” has De Souza musing on when she’ll get around to completing everyday tasks. From getting out of bed to finding a man, she’s wondering when it will happen, as it seems that “everybody else does” have all of these things. And while it’s never fully revealed whether De Souza truly wants all that she sings of, she seems to find some sort of freedom in the chorus, screaming out, “Now that everyone’s gone/I can tell you the truth/I don’t love you/I like you.”

In this age of social media, we’re made to feel as if we should be somewhere great, and have it all just like “everybody else does,” but this song is about reveling in the unknown. It’s a celebration of never truly knowing what each second could bring, and how we’re welcome to mess up again and again, even if that mess includes figuring out your feelings long after “everyone’s gone.”

Stomp, sing, dance, and shout along with every minute of this one.
