The Coathangers might have a storied career and sound, but for their latest single, “Bimbo,” our favorite trio is giving us something completely unexpected. The track — which appears on an upcoming Suicide Squeeze release out in March — is a perfect representation of old meets new. Beginning with a set of light, surf rock strings and airy melodies, the band includes a gradual transition into their traditional snarled, gritty rock. Spending just a few moments basking in the sunny glow of a soft opener, the track is then quickly ramped up; energized vocals and furious guitar cutting in for just a brief appearance. This back-and-forth continues for the duration of the track, and it eventually all culminates in a roaring finish that has the single’s soft beginnings melting effortlessly into its grungy counterpart. It turns out, we might not have The Coathangers totally figured out, yet.
