On the first single since his 2016 album Couch Baby, London crooner Jamie Isaac seems to be going along in the year like the rest of us — by trying to be in a better space. Floating alongside an enticing signature combination of delicate piano, crisp jazz, and pillowy hip hop beats that Isaac has come to so tightly mend together over the years, “Doing Better” puts listeners in the backseat of a cool, midnight winter drive with each moment as illuminating as the streetlights that dot a clear sky. As his mellow vocals ease their way into the forefront Isaac sings “I'm doing better with my sleeping. I need less less time for weeping.” and though it may not seem like much, it's that reflection that lets you know sometimes getting to a better place just means those small things, or people, don't weigh you down like they once did.
