Shortly after the release of their incredible 90210-inspired clip for “Johnny Paper” and the darlings of Seattle’s Flying Fish Cove have returned with another memorable video for single “Blow a Candle.” The track and its accompanying visuals, which were filmed and directed by Sean Downey, are the latest peek of the band’s upcoming album At Moonset, which is out next month on Help Yourself Records.

Although this particular video might not feature any homages to the Peach Pit, the band still incorporates some adorably fantastical imagery, including a conclusion adorned with foil stars, a ritualistic dance, and a fountain-side jam session. At its surface, the track feels weightless and otherworldly, with dreamy vocals quietly waltzing through an inclusion of light guitar and drums. And while it appears to be the most perfect song to begin your spring season with, the band revealed to TGE how meaningful this one truly is, saying,

“Blow a Candle” is a poetic pop dream ballad. I wrote it about mourning the end of a friendship/a break up between two friends. It’s vague, and mostly speaks in magical themed metaphor. The music video is completely inspired by the feminist art film “one sings the other doesn’t” directed by Agnes varda. It parallels the songs meaning because that film is also about a friendship between two women. One of the women in the movie is a musician and artist who travels and does performances with her band, which are some of the scenes we paid homage to in this video. I wrote the song as if it were an incantation to heal wounds from the painful loss and anguish of misunderstandings.”
