There's literally nothing not to love about this new single and its accompanying video from The Zells. The track, named for arguably the best meal of the day, soundtracks an equally delightful video that has the band singing along to their own song throughout a sunny day that features cereal and hangs with friends. Although everything about "brunch." seems to point to a fuzzy and lighthearted indie pop soundtrack, its biting message derails the brunch norms, calling out those who just can't get a clue when it comes to respecting members of the service industry. From the off-kilter twang of guitar to the husky, but welcoming vocals of its members, The Zells deliver on one memorable ode to the worst part about brunch — the people.
As band member Roman Benty explained: brunch. came about after months of working the same Sunday brunch serving shift every week. The shift feels downright ludicrous at times between volume and clientele, and my coworkers and I always joked about writing ‘Brunch: The Musical,” to cope with the stress and preserve our sanity. If we were to write that musical, I guess this would be the first song.”
