Shortly after the release of their new album, Streets of the Lost, and Big Eyes return with a clip for album single “Nearly Got Away.” Directed by Brendan McKnight, the video takes a literal interpretation to the song’s theme of almost escaping. The video isn’t exactly for the faint of heart, as the clip has Kait Eldridge taking on the role of a fictional killer. Crimson-hued images are flashed throughout, appearing in between scenes of Eldridge burying a secret, and later attempting to out run whatever misdeed has now been buried. As for the song itself, a cranked up guitar pattern plays off a pounding of percussion, nearly drowning out Eldridge’s account of attempting to escape. There’s a palpable moodiness in both song and video, and as Eldridge told TGE of the video, “As dark as the subject matter is, I’ve always been fascinated with serial killers. I grew up watching slasher movies (at far too young an age) and became intensely interested in documentary style shows like Forensic Files in my late teens. I had been planning on branching out lyrically while writing this album (previously I had only written about my own life), and I figured a good place to start would be writing from the point of view of a character I’ve essentially been studying most of my life. The character in the video is an amalgam of many serial killers.”
