video premiere: "Pitch Black" - Peach Kelli Pop

At this point, who doesn’t need a reminder of their own inner ability to be a hero? Thankfully, Peach Kelli Pop and director Ramona Dietrich teamed up to bring you a jolt of courage via a Power Rangers meets Sailor Moon clip for single “Pitch Black.” The track, which appeared on an April EP, is succinct and sunny, PKP delivering on a dose of their trademark fuzzy fun. The track begins with just the sound of guitar, but PKP’s Allie Hanlon soon joins in, her vocals cutting through the enjoyable noise to acknowledge continued feelings of stress. In just one minute, Hanlon presents emotions we’ve all experienced before, reminding us that as terrifying and worry-filled as life can be, we all have the ability to vanquish our bad days and our enemies, even the super-powered ones.

As Allie explained to TGE: “In my experience as a musician, it’s easy to be feel uncertainty or doubt about your progress and accomplishments. Every artists career is unique and there aren’t as many obvious milestones that show you're on track, like you often see with other professions. I struggle with this and that’s what Pitch Black is about. The video mirrors the feelings of struggle and finding strength with its own storyline.”

Ramona also shared the BTS details of the shoot, saying, “Everyone who had a hand in making this video had to deal with conditions that were not entirely ideal. To make this video, Allie and I were in full costume in 120 degree heat, sword fighting in the middle of the desert. It would sound like a miserable experience but because of all the great people involved, it was actually a ton of fun, and a pretty good work out.”
