There are a ton of amenities that come with living in NYC, but the fact that you can practically cover your eyes, extend your index finger while spinning in a circle, stop at random and land on a cool punk band is in the 99th percentile as far as we’re concerned. To celebrate the release of our debut full-length, Genre Reveal Party, we compiled a playlist of bangers from poc punk bands based in the Apple who’ve helped to invigorate our sense of the genre’s possibilities. The glorious abundance of cultural capital, racial and ethnic diversity, and rad places to gig and rehearse make NYC a bustling hub for black and brown punx. Of course, the tradeoff of all that phenomenal cosmic power is itty bitty living space. The strain of managing staggering living costs foments a sense of urgency that you can hear and feel in babygotbacktalk’s music and in the jams our compatriots kick out as well. If and when indoor living lets up, we’re looking forward to catching all of these fantastic bands live again in sweaty bars and basements and we recommend that you do the same!
