song: "5 Years Behind" - THICK
For years, THICK has been charming our ears, churning out hit song after song. After all this time, we are now blessed by the news of a THICK debut full length. 5 Years Behind is due out March 6 on Epitaph Records, and ahead of that, the band is sharing the title track, an all too relatable examination at feeling like you’re constantly behind.
Bopping about from the start, “5 Years Behind” is a shouted admittance of continually “swimming” through life, but still feeling overwhelmed. Despite the suffocating emotions of feeling as if you everything is do is not enough, THICK manages to turn that narrative on its head, reclaiming their power with, “I wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed/If I didn’t let time take control (of me).” There’s a sunny resilience, and even a hint of encouragement, hidden in the lyrics of an otherwise fuzzy rock single, and for all those struggling to find their place, “5 Years Behind” is an acknowledgment that you’re definitely not alone.
