“Ignore It,” the new song by Lisa Prank (aka Robin Edwards), is a fun straightforward pop-punk tune about delaying the inevitable. It’s the second song off of Edwards’ upcoming album, Perfect Love Song, and deals with the uneasy time when a relationship needs to be over, but neither person wants to voice that fact.

Edwards starts with a direct lyric that kind of sums up the whole song, “I don’t wanna feel this yet,” sung over a bouncy two-chord pattern and punchy bass. The band pulls back for the first chorus, bringing your attention to the lyrics, “So hold me tight so I can sleep tonight/And in the morning I will Ignore it all again.” It’s a beautiful and sad picture to paint, knowing that if you just get through the night, you can wake up tomorrow, go through the day and not have to think about the looming rain cloud of sadness, fear, and doubt.

That sounds like a bummer, but the Edwards and bandmates Bree McKenna (bass) and Tom Fitzgibbon (drums) back up the lyrics with an energy that makes the song seem more like a celebration. After all, if you’re not gonna “feel this yet,” then you might as well have a good time.
