song: "One Good Day" - Control Top

There are very few things to truly celebrate these days, but the return of Control Top is one moment worth acknowledging. Following the release of the band’s incredible Covert Contracts, the trio returns, releasing “One Good Day,” a single that has them sounding sharp, engaged, and more incredible than ever. It contains the same unruly nature and furious pacing that compromised so much of their 2019 release, but there’s also bits of a new identity, with the band taking inspiration from disco, particularly the Bee Gees.

Although the song doesn’t outright give way to any grooviness, there are elements of something more here including a midway breakdown that features a clamoring of effects, guitars and drum that ring out with the pacing and beat of blinding dancefloor lights throbbing with each moment. It’s glitchy and grungy, culminating in a finish that has vocals and instrumentals twisted into one another, each taking the briefest turn to shine before fading back into carefully orchestrated chaos.

There’s no way of knowing what even the next second, let alone tomorrow will bring, but this single is a reminder that we’re all working towards something better, and while social distancing and maintaining a brave face amidst the chaos can seem daunting, this single is a reminder that everyone is going through it.
