From “Cactus Dreams” to “Hollywood Rejection,” GUPPY has been a continual favorite here at The Grey Estates. After releasing a batch of singles that have yet to quit buzzing about our heads, the band returns, and released “Sentimental,” the first single from a forthcoming new album. The fuzzy, blown out track is a celebration of tender feelings, complete with ‘60s-inspired ooo’s and soft-spoken confessions. Repetitious group mantras of, “yes, I’m very sentimental” compromise much of the single, and while those moments are ever so adorable and sweet, the band shows a biting edge, promising to stand up for themselves even if they are prone to whispering their feelings. Although GUPPY “may not remember much,” and their love might be fleeting and lost in space, “Sentimental” is an edgy middle finger that fights back against any notions that those with a soft heart can’t change the world.
