video: "IUD" - Lisa Prank

In case you missed it, Lisa Prank has blessed us with a return. Earlier last month, the band released Perfect Love Song, and today we’re sharing the clip for “IUD,” a video sequel — directed by Stacey Peck — to Robin Edwards’s story of romance that was found on “Why Can’t We Just Dance.”

The lighthearted track begins with a upbeat mood that quickly faders, and Edwards begins to recount the moments that led to an end in her relationship. Fuzzy guitars and wistful vocals paint a portrait of a relationship tainted with lies and heartache, and while the subject matter isn’t exactly uplifting, Lisa Prank turns it into something fun as Edwards celebrates the one thing she can keep after the heartbreak — an IUD. It’s tinged with that desperation of wanting to believe it all work out, but ultimately realizing you’re better off, and as it concludes “IUD” takes on a hopeful note, sending you off with one final dose of breezy strings.

As Edwards explained about the track: “The writer Sheila Heti wrote this book I love called 'Motherhood' about her struggle with deciding whether or not to have children, and I wrote “IUD” based on a prompt to write a song about that topic to perform for a date on her book release tour. When I said yes to the event, I was in a serious relationship and I thought I’d write some sweet love song about maybe wanting to have kids. But by the time the event rolled around I had completely procrastinated on writing a song and was in the middle of a dramatic breakup, so this song about contraceptives and lies came out instead.”
