video: "Stella" - Penny Diving
You may previously recall the sunny jubilant surf rock of The Muscadettes, but this new project, Penny Diving, that features its former members is a complete shift in tone and direction. "Stella" is glittering, noisy shoegaze; sharp noise that hits your ear with an intoxicating beauty that never dissipates. There's a definite darkness to Penny Diving that wasn't apparent with any of The Muscadettes material, but it's one more of inviting mystery than fear. The track is glimmering shoegaze, with vocalist Chantal Ambridge rising above the controlled chaos created by bandmates Thomas Austin, Kathleen Ambridge and Jonathan Lafrance to create a lush and glorious enveloping tunnel of sound. Their debut is due out next year.
