Wahyas is a North Carolina trio who makes music that they call “evil garage gospel like johnny and june with less church.” It’s kind of the most perfect description and with an opening track titled “Third Eye” which calls for an all night venture to the coast, tequila and plans to fuck a ghost included, you notice right away that this isn’t exactly a group you could share or even take home to mom, unless your mom is into gnarly, gunning psych (Chris, my mom is not).

Lead vocalist Joshua Jackson and bassist Hawke Kelly are joined by Daddy Issues’ Lindsey Sprague (also TGE’s new best pal), which adds a sugary-coating to an otherwise un-polished, roughed up affair. The EP is the kind of soundtrack you’d expect to find in a dark, graffiti-laden bar,  the band’s fuzzed out tunes proving to be the only thing thicker than the cigarette smoke coming from a group of leather-clad regulars. This is all what I envision though, so you’re more than welcome to find your own wild adventure in the stream below.
