I know I’m going to fail the Morse code section of an interview process should I ever apply to be something that uses it. Like a spy. Spies still use Morse code, right? MI5 are going to not hire me on the spot on the basis that I can’t tell if the Morse code that plays throughout this Go! Team song spells out “Mayday.” Which also happens to the title for the next single of Ian Parton’s experimental sample-fest of a project. He’s even brought back previous collaborators Sam Dook and rapper Ninja this time round.
At this point, Parton knows exactly what he’s doing and what he does well. There’s layers upon layers of samples creating the loveliest of noise with guitars, horns, drums layered over each other with catchy double-dutch chant choruses.
For the old guard TGT fans, it’s comforting to know what you’re listening to has that familiar flavor. For newbies that haven’t entered the world of The Go! Team, Mayday is a perfect example of what to expect.
