song premiere: "Mountains" - Jimmy Lo Fi
words: Kayla Carmicheal
In every essence, “Mountains” by Jimmy Lo-Fi is a #mood. Even though he’s in two other bands, his solo project is definitely worth noting.
The fuzzy synth and mixing of “Mountains” describes that weird, uneasy feeling you can sometimes get that is indescribable. Paired with simple, yet striking electric guitar riffs, the sound is elevated to strike an intricate slow rock sound.
Lyrically, the song has a great way of painting a visual artwork of depressive feelings, wanting to rip all of that art to shreds, but somehow you find hope and hold on to that. True to its title, the track captures those little instances of lights at the end of the tunnel or the gazes of beauty below that come with being at the top of the mountain. And those instances makes the overall triumph that much greater.
As Jimmy Lo Fi explained of the track, “‘Mountains' is about those little pockets of hope and clarity you experience after starting therapy and realizing you don't have that terrible feeling of wanting to give up anymore. I didn't want to go to shows, I didn't want to see my friends, and writing songs just didn't feel good. When I discovered I had the means to start therapy, I went for it and ended up feeling like myself again."
The single is the second preview of a forthcoming album from Jimmy Lo Fi. You can catch him on tour performing with The Sonder Bombs (dates below).
