“Thriving” is a euphoric celebration of moving forward. On the latest single from Diet Cig — the first of which that comes with news of a confirmed new album Do You Wonder About Me? — the band completely and totally revels in the spirit of being able to get past someone, even when there’s a part of you that wants that person to know how well you’re doing.

It’s catchy and explosive, with the single beginning with a syrupy, sharp question from Alex Luciano — “Do you wonder about me? Do you think that I’ve been losing sleep?” At one point, everything blossoms forward, as Noah Bowman provides a powerful burst of drums to urge one on. The track invites, and begs you, to turn up the volume, twirl about, extended your hands towards the sky, and celebrate the fact that whatever was once holding you back will no longer be part of your future.

Diet Cig has always managed to present bite-sized nuggets of power pop that stick with you, but “Thriving” is the band at their best. At a time when so much of the world is turning to shit and each day feels packed with some new terror, “Thriving” is the smallest bit of hope, a musical nod of encouragement that yeah, you will rise above this.
