Sydney, Australia natives Middle Kids have been picking up fans and notoriety since the release of their self-titled EP last year, and their full-length debut Lost Friends has only intensified that praise. Based on the video for "Mistake," it's easy to see why.
The single isn’t all that ambiguous about the feeling at play – we’ve all had the kind of reckoning with our pasts that lead singer Hannah Joy sings about so beautifully here. The song is awash in reverb and angst, with a sonic palette to match its weighty subject matter.
Joy’s voice travels from high to low register nimbly, the guitars soar right along with her, and “Mistake” hums right along until the chorus is firmly planted in your brain. Middle Kids are a truly talented trio, and this song is a fine example of why.
