mp3: “You Disappear” - La Luz

The story behind La Luz’s newest full length, Weirdo Shrineout 8/7 through Hardly Art is an engaging as the album’s lead single “You Disappear.” With the production help of Ty Segall the girls returned to the “studio” (a surf shop) to record, hoping to capture the frenetic energy that comes with their live shows in a recorded format.

“Tracking most of the album live in shared quarters, La Luz chose to leave in any happy accidents and spur-of-the-moment flourishes that occurred while recording….

The resulting album is a natural evolution of the band’s self-styled “surf noir” sound—a rawer, turbo-charged sequel that charts themes of loneliness, infatuation, obsession and death across eleven tracks…”

We’ve always found their sound to be a little mysterious, their soft melodies never quite leaving your head and this release sounds just as unforgettable.
