Patrick Doherty’s bass line zips across the fretboard; a solid foundation for the moody, dreamy, psychedelic pop that Serfs deftly forges on their new single “Genesis Drums.” Bright and prickly guitar riffs flourish the near-perfect slice of pop they have conjured up, before giving way to a darker, more aggressive conclusion. A distorted guitar follows along with the bass, raising an octave while a light-hearted keyboard melody concludes the wistful track. Serfs’ debut album Day Hang drops on CD, cassette, and digital on January 29, through Self Aware Records.
