Perhaps paying tribute to its name, “Landmine” is truly an explosion of everything you’re not expecting. It’s a track which proves continually surprising and impossible to predict. The single — a first from Spooled Up’s forthcoming EP — begins with all the expected noise pop ideals; a radical wall of fuzz, crunchy guitars, and unexpectedly crystalline vocals, but as time goes on, you’re transported into something else entirely. Guitars shift to a biting, sludgy roar, as stray bits of noise find their way to rise above it all. The vocals that once guided you fade away, and all your left with is a ringing conclusion of noise, which proves to an abrupt, but welcome shift from where it all started.
