video: "Not So Bad" - Anna Burch

When we last heard from Anna Burch, she was taking jabs at a terrible lover, but here on “Not So Bad,” the first single from an upcoming sophomore release, all is rosy, bright, and worthy of a rom-com. Ahead of the April 3 release of If You’re Dreaming!, Burch gets tender-hearted, stripping away the notions of a messy romance in favor of an adorable love song.

In a video that plays out like an old movie — complete with glamorous wardrobe — Burch reflects on the good in life, even when that slice of sunshine proves hard to find. As she twirls gracefully alongside an apparent crush and dashes in dramatic fashion down a set of stairs, Burch continually, and breezily proclaims, “It’s not so bad.” The single, complete with an appearance from one sassy saxophone, is a soft blush of something more, a softer side to Burch that we hadn’t yet fully heard. Her soprano is still wondrous and filled with a shy power, and the guitars still ring out with dreamy sharpness, but “Not So Bad” feels and sounds like a new chapter.

There’s a feel of contentment and pride that comes with finally escaping a toxic part of your past, and perhaps, this new love that’s “Not So Bad” is fully responsible for the single’s warm and adorable disposition.
