Following the release of their incredible self-titled debut, Moaning has unveiled “Ego,” the first single from Uneasy Laughter, the band’s impending March release. On Moaning, all was unruly and menacing, as the band pummeled you with noisy rock that included just a flash of synths. However, here on “Ego,” the band is leaning into that synth-fueled inkling of an identity, creating a stellar new direction that’s propelled more by beauty than brashness. Further embracing that ideal of starting anew, “Ego” is about losing the part of yourself that makes the most selfish decisions. It’s a song urging you to truly give others a chance, and a recognition that sometimes the only person you really want to be be is anybody but yourself. And thanks to the inclusion of twinkling keys, tinged in a sheen of ‘80s haze and a melody that features one stellar moment of group vocals, the meaning of “Ego” rings out loud and true.
