Going to bed might often be thought as a time of peace and relaxation, but thanks to a little something known as “Night Terrors,” getting a relaxing 40 winks doesn’t always turned out as planned.
On their musical return, Diet Cig explores this struggle of night terrors, with vocalist Alex Luciano opening up about her own continued struggles with sleep activity. While the subject matter, and the idea of being unable to fully control your sleep pattern, isn’t exactly uplifting material, in true Diet Cig fashion, the group turns this affair into something light and pleasant. Luciano’s vocals serve as a light, airy presence, somehow remaining put together even as she admits that her sleeping patterns are “out of control.” Nearing its conclusion, Luciano’s vocals ring out, mingling into a dream-like haze with Noah Bowman’s percussion work. As for its finale, all is layered over one another, a collage of apologies and bright instrumental work that perfectly conveys a beautiful dream-like delirium.
