The arrival of autumn brings about stunning visual reminders of what the season has to offer. As each day passes, some new colorful element reveals itself, and “Rest Stop” captures just a fraction of that beauty with a wistful glimpse at a fading summer. The single, which is the latest from Amy O’s upcoming Winspear release, received an animated visual treatment from BrainTwins, and for each picturesque line of the track there’s an accompanying drawing.

The song is soft and subtle, unwinding with the same graceful speed as a leaf falling from its branches, and for much of the track, vocalist Amy Oelsner exercises this same pacing with her explorations. Careful brushes and twangs of strings are the only instrumental accompaniment, and their presence provides an equally measured backing, as if they’re content to let Oelsner shine as she narrates a tale of memories. Capturing both sadness and happiness in equal measure with this one, “Rest Stop” enlivens that feeling of being ready for what’s next, but still missing what you’ll be forced to leave behind.

As Amy explained to TGE about the track, "I wrote “Rest Stop” shortly after my husband and I moved into our new home, and I had left my job of 5 years. It’s about when something changes and you’re halfway between the old and the new. I was tired and overwhelmed- but also in love and grateful."

Preorder Shell, out October 25, on Winspear here.
