Ratboys is truly the musical gift that keeps on giving. Following the release of “Alien With a Sleep Mask On,” the band shares another peek of their upcoming album, and yes, it’s also very good.

The best Halloween-inspired video aside, “I Go Out at Night” is brimming with hopefulness. In a track that examines the ‘what if’s’ and beauty of temporarily being alone, even in the darkness, there’s a palpable expression of the thrill that accompanies acknowledging how you could literally start over at any moment. The guitars are as crisp and full as ever, backing Julia Steiner’s nearly whispered confessions — “Sometimes when I’m afraid, I turn on the light.” Ratboys sounds gloriously defined, and even when it’s all stripped back, and we revel in a few seconds of just Steiner and instrumentals clearly building to something more, there’s a soaring moment waiting in the wings.

The single appears on Printer’s Devil, out 2/28 on Topshelf Records.
